Just about any book has the potential to be banned (or discouraged) and for many, many reasons. Just because some conservative Christians don’t like certain books, however, does not mean that they all do not. I am a very conservative Christian and have read all of the books you listed. Harry Potter is one of my favorite series of all time. :)

There was a cute book about penguins in a zoo, two male penguins that adopted an egg and raised the baby penguin together. It got banned and that’s stupid because it was real, it actually happened. Plus it was penguins, not people. And even if it was people it’s no big deal. Letting our kids *read* about something doesn’t mean they’re going to become that something — like we shouldn’t let them read “Romeo and Juliette” because then they might kill themselves? Stupid.

I think you mean movies. Conservative Christians don’t read books.
